HISTORY

Ever since known as “Mossi Empire”, Burkina Faso fell under the French dominion by the end of the 19th century. In 1904 it was given a new name “Colony of the upper Senegal Niger”. Fifteen years later, it became the colony of “Upper Volta” and gained its independence on August 5th, 1960. On August 4th, 1984, a year after the revolution of August 4th, 1983 broke out, the country was renamed “Burkina Faso” which means the "Country of the Upright People".
