His Excellency, Tertius ZONGO was appointed Prime Minister Burkina Faso by executive order signed by President Blaise COMPAORE on June, 4, 2007.
He presented his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Burkina Faso to the United States of America on February, 14, 2002.
Credited with an extensive background in economics and accounting Mr. ZONGO has, prior to his diplomatic position, held several high positions in the Government Agencies and in the Cabinet of Burkina Faso, among others.
From 1995 to 2000, he was Minister of Budget and Planning and then as Minister of Economy and Finance. He also served as governor for Burkina Faso to the World Bank, the International Monetary Funds, and as administrator to the African Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) and the West African Development Bank (BOAD). He was also the Chief authorizer of expenditures over the budget allocated by the European Development Funds.
At the sub regional level, he has, as Statutory Minister at the Council of Ministers of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), played a key role in the implementation of the economic policy of integration of the Member States.
At the national level, he steered the drafting, the presentation and the approval by the Institutions of Breton Woods in June 2000 of the Burkina Fasos poverty reduction strategy.
As Director General of the Cooperation at the Ministry of Economy and Finances from 1988 to 1995, he reorganized and instigated cooperation with the bilateral and multilateral financial partners by focusing the policy dialogue on results, harmonization and coordination.
Mr. ZONGO has earned a valuable experience in business and private sector in his service as Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and of Craft of Burkina Faso and as Director General of the National Office of Cereals.
Part time lecturer at the University of Ouagadougou in accounting, business economy and financial analysis, Mr. ZONGO has been active in academia as well.
He participated in numbers of high profile international meetings in the economic field. Some of his contributions to seminars and conferences are incorporated in reference publications such as:
- African Economic Outlook: 2002 - 2003 - published in French and English by the African Development Bank Development and the Centre of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development-OECD;
- The Macro-economic Management of Foreign Aid: Opportunities and Pitfalls - published by the International Monetary Fund - 2006;
- Budget Support as more effective Aid: Recent experiences and emerging lessons - published by the World Bank - 2006.
Mr. ZONGO holds a Bachelor of Art, and a Master degree in economics major in business management from the University of Dakar- Senegal and a Degree of Higher Studies in Business Management from the Institute of Enterprises Administration of Nantes, France.
Mr. ZONGO is married to Priscille Yanogo, and has three children.
Multi decorated, he is Knight, Officer and Commander of the National Order of Burkina Faso. |
